WING CHUN (1994)
Chinese title: Yong Chun

In this fast and furious costume drama, Michelle Yeoh plays a provincial girl who rebels at her arranged marriage by taking up martial arts. This action not only brands her as an undesirable bride but makes her the laughing stock of her village. Yeoh, however, soon has the last laugh when her home is terrorized by bandits and she emerges as the town's most ferocious defender. Wing Chun is the perfect showcase for Michelle Khan's unique talents. Check out the way she handles misogynistic insults from her male adversaries like "You'd better go home and have a baby," She lets her feet and flailing arms provide the snappy comeback. Joining Ms. Yeoh in the film is the remarkable Donnie Yan, a brilliant martial arts and action choreographer in his own right. Wing Chun is directed by Yuen Woo Ping (Tai Chi Master) and based on a real life character - Madam Yip Wing Chun - who inspired a whole new brand of martial arts. Wing Chun is also the art Bruce Lee studied for a few years before he began his screen career.

Rating: TV-14-V.
