HEART OF DRAGON (1985)
Chinese title: Long de xin

You've seen Jackie as a comic, bumbling cop before but have you ever seen him when he plays the role straight, omiting the slapstick element? Heart of Dragon may be Jackie Chan's most serious film and the closest he's ever come to making a no-nonsense martial arts thriller. In the film, he plays a cop who forsakes his dream of sailing around the world in order to care for (Samo Hung), his mentally retarded brother. When Hung innocently wanders into a lethal situation involving stolen jewels, he is captured by a notorious criminal and held as a hostage in exchange for a wanted police informer. Naturally, Jackie is forced to intervene, resulting in a violent showdown.

Heart of Dragon is memorable for Jackie's dramatic performance and some spectacular fight scenes between Jackie and Dick Wei. It was also honored at the Hong Kong Film Awards in 1985, receiving nominations for Best Action Choreography, Best Film Score, Best Director, and Best Song.

Rating: TV-14-V.
