DRAGONS FOREVER (1987)
Chinese title: Fei lung maang jeung

Jackie Chan as a kung-fu lawyer? Sure, it sounds implausible but wouldn't you want him to represent you? In Dragons Forever, Jackie plays Johnny Lang, an attorney hired by a corrupt chemical manufacturer to represent them in a law suit accusing them of destroying the local fishing industry. The truth is actually much worse. In addition to polluting the waters, the chemical plant is also the site of a black market drug operation. Jackie soon sees the errors of his ways and switches sides, inspired in part by the beautiful star witness (Pauline Yeung) in the law suit.

Dragons Forever is considered one of Jackie Chan's best collaborations with Chinese superstars Samo Hung and Yuen Biao and was nominated for Best Action Choreography in the prestigious Hong Kong Film Awards in China. Thomas Weisser, a renown connoisseur of Chinese films, gives it a rave review in his book, Asian Cult Cinema: "Perhaps the best of the Jackie Chan transition films (the ones he made between his early chop-socky days and his later crime-story period), Dragons Forever mixes great fight sequences and back-breaking stunts with endearing, charismatic performances. The comradery among the three lead characters (Jackie Chan, Samo Hung and Yuen Biao) is so obviously genuine the screen seems to crackle with their relentless enthusiasm."

Rating: TV-14-V.
